Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Launch Green Card
Under the Employment Act 2006, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment have launched a new Green Card scheme as well as updating existing work permit and dependent spouse arrangements. These new arrangements were introduced officially on February 1st this year, 2007.
The new Green Card arrangement: The Green Card is awarded to the employee and it is granted for a period of 24 months. The new arrangements allow the employee to apply for immediate family re-unification and will allow a pathway to permanent residency after 2 years. Spouses are free to seek employment and apply for a Spousal/Dependent Work Permit once they are legally resident in the State.
Green Cards will be available to candidates in all occupations with a salary offer of over €60,000 per annum or to candidates in a restricted number of strategically important occupations earning between €30,000 and €59,999. In the ICT professional category the roles specified are Computer System Managers, Computer Analysts, Computer Programmers and Computer Testers. In the Specialist Managers category the roles specified are Marketing and other Specialist Managers.
Checklist for the application: Applicants must send the Department: 1) A fully completed new employment permit application specifying that it is a Green Card application 2) A passport copy, which must be valid for 3 months after the proposed expiry date of the Green Card. 3) An original Job Offer, of 2 years or more duration, on company headed paper and dated with the previous 60 days including job description, starting date, salary and information regarding qualifications and/or skills required for the employment. 4) Documentary evidence of certified qualifications. 5) A processing fee of €1,000
