Vantage poll reveals reasons why IT contractors choose not to re-contract
16th Aug 2007

In the IT contract market, contractors often have the opportunity to re-contract with a client after their initial contract period is over. More often than not the contractor chooses to re-contract with the client, often multiple times, but there are times when a contractor chooses not to re-contract. In last week's poll, Vantage investigated the main reasons why IT contractors, who participated in the poll, choose not to re-contract.

Poll participants were presented with a number of different options of why they might not re-contract when given the opportunity. The participants included .net Developers, Oracle Analyst Programmers, Java Developers, Business Analysts and other IT professionals. The main reason they cited for not re-contracting was money, receiving 29.4% of votes. A previous poll conducted on Vantage website supports the importance of money to contractors, when 70.4% of contractors polled indicated that money is more important to them than working with the right technology. However, when Vantage conducted a poll on whether or not an IT contractor would accept a lower daily rate for onsite training the majority of voters said that they would. In last week's poll, only 8.8% of voters alluded to lack of training as a reason for not re-contracting.

Lack of management received the second highest number of votes, 17.6% of the total, with better career opportunity as the third most popular choice with 14.7% of the total votes. According to the results of Vantage's poll, other reasons IT contractors decide not to re-contract is because they choose to take a permanent role or due to an indifference to the role. Each of these reasons received 11.8% of total votes. Finally, only two IT contractors named geographical location as the main reason why they have decided to or would decide to decline a re-contracting offer.

Vantage Resources thank you for participating in our weekly poll. This week, we ask visitiors to Vantage website when they are most likely to search for a new job. This is an expansion of a previous poll " what time of the day are you most likely to do an Internet search for your next IT Contract?". We look forward to receiving your votes!
