Vantage examine why IT contractors choose not to work in permanent roles
22nd Oct 2007
Vantage Resources run a weekly poll addressing a number of issues of interest to people in the IT market. Last week we asked IT contractors visiting our website why they choose to contract rather than work permanently. The answers from which the contractors could choose included,
More money
More control
More diversity
More flexibility
Personal circumstances and
Lack of suitable permanent roles
Ninety four people participated in the poll. Forty people indicated the main reason they choose to contract in the IT market is because they earn more money than they would for the same role in a permanent position. The second most quoted reason for contracting, with seventeen per cent of total votes, was that IT contractors perceive that there is more flexibility with a contract role rather than a permanent role. Thirteen per cent of voters identified control as being the main reason for choosing to contract, as they feel contracting gives more control than working in a permanent role. For eleven per cent of voters more diversity was highlighted as the principle reason for choosing to contract. The remaining two options, personal circumstances and lack of suitable roles, both received 8% of total votes as the deciding factor for contract versus permanent roles.
This week we ask people in the IT market how they keep abreast of the latest IT trends in the market place. If you have any queries about Vantage's polls, please do not hesitate to contact Lynda Hogan, Marketing Manager, at Lynda.Hogan@vantage.ie
Vantage Resources provided me with information on real IT contracts leading quickly to interview. On appointment back office support is good and, most importantly from an IT contracting perspective, payment is reliable and on time.
