OT Field Engineer – Telemetry & Site Communications
Type: Contract
Location: Dublin
Salary: €450 per day
Our Client:
- Our client is a national utility responsible for critical water and wastewater infrastructure across the Greater Dublin Area. They are currently delivering a major telemetry and communications upgrade programme across their operational site estate and need an experienced OT Field Engineer to support delivery on the ground.
What's Involved:
- This is a hands-on field role focused on telemetry and communications remediation across live water and wastewater sites. You'll be replacing legacy PSTN and GSM comms with modern IP-based 4G solutions, and supporting the commissioning of replacement telemetry outstations. Day to day, that means:
- Surveying legacy RTU sites to assess comms arrangements, modem type, serial interfaces, panel space and antenna requirements
- Installing and commissioning serial-to-Ethernet converters and 4G industrial routers at pilot sites
Configuring converter and router settings to interface with legacy RTUs, liaising with client networking teams on SCADA-side changes
- Running end-to-end comms testing - telemetry, alarms, polling performance, power-cycle recovery and failover
- Supporting installation of IP-based telemetry outstations, including Marshalling PLC panel wiring, LAN cabling and Modbus TCP/IP signal verification against signed-off signal lists
- Supporting cutover and decommissioning of legacy equipment in coordination with client teams
- Working within a Permit to Work system throughout, and producing survey reports, commissioning records and handover documentation
What You Need:
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
- Full, clean Irish drivers’ license
- Hands-on OT or industrial telemetry field engineering experience in water, wastewater, gas, power or similar critical infrastructure - this is not an IT or service desk role
- Practical experience with legacy RTU or telemetry equipment
- Working knowledge of serial communications - RS232, RS485, modem configuration and serial-to-Ethernet conversion
- Experience commissioning 4G industrial routers (e.g. Westermo Merlin, Robustel or similar)
- Understanding of Modbus TCP/IP and industrial networking protocols
- Comfortable working on live operational sites under a Permit to Work system
- Full working rights to work in Ireland (EU citizenship, stamp 4 visa etc.)
What's on Offer:
- €450 per day
- 3-month initial contract with strong potential to extend
- Field-based role across sites in the Greater Dublin Area
