Remote work in 2024 Ireland
Ireland is introducing new laws concerning remote working requests with the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act.


Employers will be required to consider and respond to these requests, taking into account business needs and employee needs. If approved, an agreement detailing the remote working arrangement must be prepared. Employers have the right to refuse requests but must provide reasons for doing so.


The Act aims to balance the rights of employees and employers, allowing the termination of remote working arrangements if they adversely affect the business. Employees are protected from penalization for requesting remote working and can file complaints with the Workplace Relations Commission. Compensation of up to four weeks' pay can be awarded for breaches of the Act. Employers should familiarize themselves with the Act and prepare for its implementation by reviewing policies, developing guidelines, and ensuring compliance.

Artificial Intelligence
